Adapting the life story of the icon Bobby Darin, starring Jonathan Groff, to the stage was a bold idea. There aren't a lot of people around NYC today attending musicals on a regular basis who even are familiar with who Bobby Darin was. Yet, in the eyes of many, he's one of the legends of the jazz and swing scene in the 60s. Both his life and his success were fleeting, leaving fans with numerous what-ifs. This story endeavors to delve deeply into the mind of a man who lit up dance halls and movie theaters in the 1950s and 1960s.
As mentioned, one of the key obstacles for Just in Time is still getting people excited about a story that many of them have a limited background on. Yet, Bobby Darin wasn't just one of the stars of show business in the mid-century era. He was politically active, traveling with RFK on the night in LA where he was murdered. Not to provide too many spoilers, but being deeply affected by those events, he spent the next year isolated in a trailer. In 37 years, it could be said that the man lived a complete journey, and the score to it was incredible!
