Adapting the life story of the icon Bobby Darin, starring Jonathan Groff, to the stage was a daring idea. There aren't a lot of people around NYC today frequenting musicals on a regular basis who even know who Bobby Darin was. Yet, in the eyes of many, he's one of the legends of the jazz and swing scene in the 1960s. Both his life and his success were fleeting, leaving fans with a ton of what-ifs. This story seeks to explore thoroughly into the mind of a man who filled dance halls and movie theaters in the ‘50s and ‘60s.
As mentioned, one of the main hurdles for Just in Time is still getting people enthused about a story that many of them have heard little about. Yet, Bobby Darin wasn't just one of the faces of entertainment in the mid-century era. He was politically active, touring with RFK on the night in LA where he was taken. Not to provide too many spoilers, but being heavily influenced by those events, he spent the next year in solitude in a trailer. In just 37 years, it could be said that the man lived a full life, and the music to it was remarkable!
