You're Just in Time to catch Broadway's grandest bet at a era-defining jukebox musical. We venture to claim that so far, that bit about being successful is paying off! Adapting the life story of the legend Bobby Darin, starring Matthew Morrison in the title role, to the stage was a daring idea. There aren't many people around NYC today frequenting musicals on a regular basis who even are familiar with who Bobby Darin was. Yet, in the eyes of many, he's one of the icons of the swing and jazz eras in the 1960s. Both his life and his success were fleeting, leaving fans with a ton of what-ifs. This story endeavors to delve deeply into the mind of a man who filled dance halls and movie theaters in the 1950s and 1960s with unforgettable hits like "Mack the Knife," "Beyond the Sea," "Splish Splash," and "Dream Lover."
As mentioned, one of the main hurdles for Just in Time is keeping people excited about a story that many of them have heard little about. Yet, Bobby Darin wasn't just one of the stars of show business in the '50s and '60s. He was engaged in activism, traveling with RFK on the night in LA where he was murdered. Not to provide too many spoilers, but being deeply affected by those events, he spent the next year in solitude in a trailer. In a mere 37 years, it could be said that the man lived a complete journey, and the soundtrack to it was incredible! Even if Just in Time at Circle In The Square Theatre on Sunday 17th May 2026 is your first exposure to this character, the performance can move you deeply while inspiring you to sway your way out of the theater. That's a unique blend even for Broadway these days. Directed by Alex Timbers with a book by Warren Leight and Isaac Oliver, this immersive nightclub setting features Morrison alongside Isa Briones as Connie Francis and Sadie Dickerson as Sandra Dee.
Do you want to have the best spot in the house to experience the complete set as this amazing cast performs some of the now iconic music numbers? Then opt for the pro move and grab a seat in the middle of the theater, slightly back from the stage. That's where you're going to be able to fully enjoy this experience in its complete splendor! By the way, experience is a good word to describe this performance. The life of Bobby Darin has often more shadows than bright spots, yet his music is largely joyful. Being able to have those harmonize demonstrates the outstanding job the production team has done with Just in Time. The Circle In The Square's unique in-the-round staging brings audiences closer to the action, with seats surrounding the stage on all sides in this intimate 680-seat theater.
